“We are constantly exploring new ways to reduce the environmental impact of our operations. Our investment in renewable energy is an important part of that goal. Our partnership with Bullfrog Power has given us the ability to better manage our own energy while contributing to the expansion of green power generation in Canada.“

President and Chief Executive Officer
Walmart Canada
Walmart Canada became one of Bullfrog Power’s earliest customers when it signed on with us in 2006. Since that time, the company has continually expanded its green energy commitment to remain one of the largest commercial purchasers of clean power in Canada.
Walmart has committed to using green power as part of its “For the Greener Good” campaign, a nationwide program dedicated to three long-term corporate sustainability goals:
- to produce zero waste;
- to be powered 100 per cent by renewable energy; and
- to make more environmentally preferable products available to customers.
Walmart is introducing a number of innovative initiatives to meet these sustainability goals, including the development of stores that are 30% more energy efficient than those built in 2005. Environmental sustainability measures include highly efficient rooftop HVAC units, food refrigeration systems with many energy-saving features, LED lighting and summertime lighting reductions, reduced packaging, waste diversion and recycling and reductions in plastic bag use. The company has also introduced many environmentally sustainable products — more than 500 varieties of green products are promoted under the retailer’s “For the Greener Good” logo.
In January 2009, Walmart opened its first environmental demonstration store in Burlington, Ontario. Among many other sustainable features, the location includes a first-of-its-kind application of geothermal technology in a large-scale Canadian retail operation. The new Burlington Supercentre — a bullfrogpowered location — is expected to use an estimated 60% less energy than the company's typical Supercentre.
The following Walmart locations are bullfrogpowered:
Ontario
- Home Office in Mississauga
- Supercentres in Mississauga and Burlington
- Stores in Guelph and Waterloo
Alberta
- 2 Supercentres in Edmonton
- Supercentre in Airdrie
British Columbia
- Supercentres in Vancouver and Duncan
