An accomplished musician, lyricist, poet and singer, Gord Downie is best known as the lead man for the legendary Canadian band, The Tragically Hip. An avid listener with a voracious appetite for rock music throughout his childhood and teen years in Kingston, Ontario, Gord exhausted his weekly allowance on vinyl and regularly pillaged his older sister’s 45 collection. In 1984, Gord and his friends formed The Tragically Hip, which soon rose to the top of the Canadian music scene and award rosters. The band released their first album in 1987, the start of a prolific musical output that has now spanned two decades. A strong and loyal proponent of environmental action, Gord has lent his support to a range of initiatives including waterways management and renewable power. Gord lives with his wife and children in their bullfrogpowered home in Toronto.
