Specialty coffee roaster chooses 100 per cent green electricity
Toronto, June 18, 2008 — Bullfrog Power™, a leading Canadian provider of
100 per cent green electricity, today announced that Reunion Island Coffee Limited, a wholesale specialty roaster, has become bullfrogpowered. Reunion Island has agreed to purchase clean, renewable power for its operations in Oakville, Ontario, joining the growing list of Canadian homes, businesses and organizations that are supporting locally produced, clean, renewable power.
“We share in the concerns of our customers and make a concerted effort to source not only our coffee, but all of our goods as ethically and responsibly as possible,” said Adam Pesce, Reunion Island Coffee. “As an importer and manufacturer we understand our emissions output is something we cannot avoid. We must, therefore, continue to do whatever we can to shrink our carbon footprint, and supporting Bullfrog Power is a step in the right direction.”
Founded in 1996, Reunion Island is a wholesale specialty coffee roaster with a focus on high-grown, gourmet and sustainable coffees that are handpicked and imported from over 20 countries. It participates in direct trade relationships and partnerships with Rainforest Alliance and co-op organizations. Reunion Island is a supplier to many of the finest cafés and restaurants in the Greater Toronto Area and throughout Canada and the United States.
In addition to bullfrogpowering its operations, Reunion Island’s sustainability initiatives include instituting a recycling program at its roasting facility, printing marketing materials on recycled paper and purchasing carbon offsets for all deliveries in the Greater Toronto Area. It has increased purchases of organic and Rainforest Alliance coffees, introduced an organic tea line and created an environmental incentive program for employees and customers.
